Data Modelling with Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect

Data Modelling with Sparx Systems Enterprise ArchitectData Modelling with Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect

This training course is aimed at Data Analysts whose role involves analysis and design of conceptual and logical data models. The course covers two methods of conceptual data modelling, namely UML & CHEN ERD.

Conceptual data modelling includes the basics of normalisation to ensure sound data modelling design. In addition to the theoretical aspects participants will receive hands-on experience of creating conceptual & logical data models in Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect.

Course Price £556.00 (per person)
Onsite Price from £248.00 (per person)
Online Price from NA
Course Duration 1 Day

Aims & Objectives

This training course aims to equip Data Modellers with the necessary skills and practical experience to model data using Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect.

Course Content

Introduction to UML

  • Brief introduction covering what the UML is including diagram types and very brief history
  • Framework 4+1 view detailing diagrams to be used during a typical system development lifecycle.

Introduction to Enterprise Architect (EA)

  • What is EA
  • A look at the object browser and how models are structured using views and packages
  • Diagramming techniques
  • EA Options menu
  • EA Settings menu
  • How to search the model
  • Focus is on getting new users to a point where they are familiar with how to use the tool and where to find certain features; also trying to instill best practice early on such as using package diagrams to structure views and reuse of elements in the model.

Business Data Modelling

  • The objectives of Business Data Modelling
    • The structure of Business Data Models
  • Data Entities, Attributes and Relationships
    • Data Modelling Workflow

Data Modelling

  • The difference between a logical (conceptual) data model and a physical data model
  • How a data model can be created in EA
  • Database forward engineering (DDL creation)
  • Database reverse engineering (schema model creation

Data Access Modelling (optional)

  • How to model data access with UML
  • Common data access patterns

Practical examples will be used throughout the day.

Prerequisites

Users should be familiar with Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect.
